Medicus Golf; Golf Swing Patterns, the Objective, the Fundamentals

In my daily conversations with golfers and instructors, from time to time the question is asked, “Randy, want are some points that may separate you from others in the field of golf instruction and what are you guys all about?”  With this question in mind I will highlight just a few key points that may assist everyone in knowing a little more about who we are.

Medicus Golf is a center for learning that is dedicated to providing instructors and students with the means to assemble a golf stroke that best fits people’s needs and desires. Years of study and research on the physics and mechanics of the golf motion, and countless hours spent on the lesson tee working with golfers, have shown us that there is a relatively simple and easily understood methodology to help golfers understand and ultimately improve their games.

Our task at Medicus Golf is to provide instructors and students the means to assemble their own particular swing pattern, how to match components, the possible snares that players run into when components do not match, and finally how to make it all work.

We do all of this in a context that has no technical jargon.  You do not need to have a degree in engineering or biomechanics to be apart of Medicus Golf.  What you do need is a desire to improve your game and your knowledge.

Golf Swing Patterns

There is no “one size fits all” swing pattern or how to move the golf club. Ultimately, golfers must choose the pattern that suits them best. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you know what you are doing.  Ultimately, the golf swing is a matter of three principles: controlling impact, distance and direction.

A tough thing for golfers, and many teachers of the game, to understand is the fact that ALL golf swings are the same and the only difference is in an individual’s application.  With this in mind, we make no effort to classify any Swing Pattern as better or worse but, there is undoubtedly a best “central” Swing Pattern for each individual.

What is a golf swing pattern?  A golf swing pattern can be viewed as a recipe or even a jigsaw puzzle.  Imagine each of the ingredients or pieces are the motion that all golfers make in swinging a golf club.  These pieces or ingredients are what we call components.  Each of these components is actions which can be properly executed in more than one way.  Their individual application could be considered as one’s own style.  This style or individual application is a particular, distinctive, or characteristic mode or form of execution in any work.  This is why when watching golf tournaments on TV you see all these different golf swings but each of them can produce winning results.

So what we do is build YOUR golf swing YOUR way and we do so by assuring that YOUR golf swing components match for you to get a desired result.  That is our job and we love it!

The Objective

Fundamentals are principles from which other truths can be derived.  You have no doubt heard statements like; "first you must learn the fundamentals"; "let's get down to basics", “let’s start at the foundation or base”.  Fundamentals are that which form or serve as essential components of a system or structure, central.  We bring everything back to what the true fundamentals of playing golf are all about.

The quality of the result and/or objective is based upon the three basic control fundamentals of golf:

1.      Impact Control:  Is the strike of the clubface and ball in relationship to the ground

2.      Distance Control:  To hit the golf ball the prescribed and desired distance to play not only the shot at hand but the golf course itself

3.      Ball Flight Control:  To hit the golf ball the prescribed and desired direction, trajectory and curvature for the required shot at hand

Learning, Training, Putting it ALL Together

So how do we put it all together for you so permanent improvement can be achieved?  We implement the Medicus training aids in our curriculum so that visuals, feel and instant feedback is provided so you, the student, knows precisely when the motion has gone awry or is correct.  We build YOUR golf swing in an EASY 3 Step System.  We then supply mental coaching for you to take your game to the course and play on that much used verbiage, though many times miss represented, of “Automatic”.  Our goal and objective is not the creation of expert range ball beaters but more importantly golfers who learn to put the ball in the hole.  That is the litmus test.

In weeks and months to come we will look to expand on certain aspects mentioned in this article as well as precise items that golf are built around but is never mentioned in main stream golf instruction but until then…..GOOD GOLFING!!!
